Code of Conduct
EK has established general rules of conduct that apply to everyone. There may also be more detailed rules specific to local areas.
The Code of Conduct applies to all individuals who access or use Business Academy Copenhagen’s (EK’s) physical and digital environments. The rules govern behaviour during teaching, work, and other activities connected to EK, including communication through notices, posters, and similar materials displayed on EK premises.
The Code of Conduct is supplemented by applicable legislation and by EK’s other policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Behaviour at EK
EK must be a safe, inclusive, and professional environment for both students and staff. This means that, through our behaviour, communication, and actions, we:
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and undisturbed learning and working environment.
- Communicate openly, professionally, and respectfully.
- Do not engage in offensive behaviour, harassment, discrimination, or racism.
Racism, discrimination, and other forms of offensive behaviour are not tolerated under any circumstances, whether in teaching, work, or social settings.
At EK, we treat one another with respect for diversity and individual differences. This includes:
- Respecting each person's background, beliefs, opinions, and way of life, including their sexual orientation and gender identity.
- Ensuring that no one is subjected to degrading, offensive, or exclusionary treatment.
Activities at EK
Students and staff must be able to move freely around EK’s premises without being approached or interrupted for purposes such as sales, recruitment, campaigning, or other forms of influence. Such activities may, however, take place provided they are not intrusive, disruptive, or based on direct approaches to passers-by.
A distinction is made between internal activities (such as student democratic, academic, and social organisations) and external activities or enquiries, which may be subject to separate assessment and approval.
Practical rules while you are on EK premises
We look after one another and EK by:
- Following instructions provided through signage and by members of staff.
- Using facilities, equipment, and allocated lockers correctly and responsibly.
- Contributing to a calm and productive environment in teaching and working spaces.
- Respecting diversity and differing viewpoints, including in connection with notices displayed on designated notice boards.
In addition, animals are not permitted on EK premises. Assistance dogs are allowed, provided that EK is informed in advance. An assistance dog is a specially trained dog that supports individuals with physical or mental health conditions or disabilities. EK may request documentation confirming the dog's training and certification.
Digital conduct
The Code of Conduct also applies to all digital platforms, including channels outside EK’s control that are used by students and staff for study- or work-related purposes. This means that we:
- Communicate respectfully.
- Do not share offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate content.
- Handle data and information securely and in accordance with applicable regulations.
Audio, image and video recording
We show consideration for one another when making audio, image, and video recordings.
This means that:
- Photographs, audio recordings, and video recordings may be made as part of the institution’s day-to-day activities, documentation, and educational purposes.
- Any other recordings on EK premises, including recordings of teaching sessions, meetings, and conversations, may only be made with the prior agreement of the individuals and/or staff members concerned.
- Such recordings must not be shared, distributed, or published without separate consent or another lawful basis.
- As a general rule, teaching sessions may only be recorded where there is a documented need.
- Examinations must not be recorded unless the recording is carried out by EK.
Consent may be withdrawn at any time, in which case the recording must be deleted.
Video Surveillance
EK is committed to providing a safe and secure learning and working environment. For this reason, video surveillance is used in selected areas to enhance safety and security, prevent misconduct and breaches of regulations, and assist in the investigation of incidents.
Video recordings may be disclosed to the police in connection with criminal investigations. The purpose of video surveillance is not to monitor or supervise students or staff in their day-to-day activities.
Offensive behaviour and the handling of complaints
EK does not tolerate offensive behaviour. Managers have a particular duty to actively prevent offensive behaviour and a responsibility to act promptly when they become aware of incidents or concerns.
The Code of Conduct sets out the overarching principles, while specific cases are managed in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and legislation.
Smoking, alcohol and drugs
EK is committed to maintaining a safe and professional learning and working environment for everyone. This means that:
- Smoking and the use of e-cigarettes are only permitted outdoors in designated areas.
- Alcohol must not be consumed during teaching or working hours unless expressly authorised.
- Illegal drugs and other intoxicating substances are prohibited.
In addition, employees are subject to EK’s Policy on Smoking, Alcohol and Drugs.
Legal basis
These Code of Conduct regulations are adopted in accordance with Section 15(5) of the Statutes of Business Academy Copenhagen (EK).
Handling breaches of the Code of Conduct
All individuals present at Business Academy Copenhagen (EK) are subject to these rules. This includes students, staff, contractors, suppliers, and other visitors who access or use EK’s physical or digital environments.
Anyone may report or raise concerns about a breach of the Code of Conduct.
