Rules of Conduct

At EK, disciplinary rules include not only rules of conduct but also safety regulations, house rules, notices, signage, and announcements on ItsLearning and the intranet. These local rules must be followed, even if they are not explicitly listed in the regulations below.

Anyone present at EK has an obligation to comply with the disciplinary and safety regulations.

Conduct

• Both students and staff at EK must act considerately and contribute to a constructive, open, and undisturbed environment for work and study.
• Dialogue between students and staff, as well as among students, must be based on openness, equality, and respect for the individual and their views.
• EK respects the principle of freedom of religion and considers the practice of religion to be a personal and private matter.
• Noisy behaviour, eating, and drinking must take place without causing a nuisance to others.
• Indoor smoking—including e-cigarettes—is prohibited. Outdoors, smoking is only permitted in specially designated areas marked with signs.
• Alcohol may not be consumed during regular working hours, except during the student cafés' opening hours. Narcotics are not tolerated under any circumstances.

IT-rules

• Students must comply with current IT regulations.
• The internet must not be used to download programs, information, or communication that is criminal under the Penal Code, Copyright Act, or other legislation.
• If you add a portrait to O365/Teams/UMS, it must be a picture of yourself. Images of other people, objects, animals, etc., are not permitted.

Audio and Video Recording

• Teaching: If a student wishes to record teaching via audio or video, they must obtain prior consent from both the class and the instructors involved. This is primarily intended for students with reading disabilities.
• Exam: Audio or video recording during an exam is prohibited by law. EK may only approve this if the recording is a formal part of the examination process.
• Other situations: Recording conversations or similar interactions with students or staff is prohibited without the active consent of all present. If consent is later withdrawn, the recording must be deleted immediately.

Reporting Violations

• Violations are reported to the Head of Studies, who decides on further action. Reports must be made in writing or followed up in writing as soon as possible.
• In cases of gross violations, any employee may temporarily expel a student from the premises until the case is processed.
• Criminal acts such as threats, violence, vandalism, arson, or theft will be reported to the police immediately.

Sanctions

The Head of Studies may impose the following sanctions:

• A formal warning remains in the student's file for the duration of their studies.
• Partial exclusion from educational activities or IT-systems.
• For a specific period, proportional to the violation.
• Final dismissal from EK.

Procedure

Before a decision is made, the student has the right to be heard and may be accompanied by an observer (bisidder). (Exceptions apply for documented IT abuse).

A decision by the Head of Studies can be appealed to the Dean/Director within two weeks. 

Legal matters can further be appealed to the Ministry of Higher Education and Science within two weeks of the decision.
