Word and Office
Here you can find a number of short tutorials and exercises to help you get started with using Word and the Microsoft Office suite.
As an EK student, you can download the Office suite from office.com. Simply sign in with your EK email account.
Table of contents
Home
On the Home tab in Word, you will find the most commonly used functions. This is where you can change the text size, color, style, and line spacing.
Try it yourself!
1. Create a new document in Word.
2. Type or dictate some text.
3. Change the text font, size, color, and other formatting options.
4. Use Format Painter to copy your formatting to another section of text.
5. Experiment with Styles, Bullets, and other formatting features.

Insert
Under the Insert tab in Word, you can add various types of content to your documents, such as tables, images, clip art, charts, page numbers, page breaks, and much more.
Try it yourself!
1. Insert a cover page into your document.
2. Create a page break.
3. Insert page numbers and a footnote.
4. Experiment with inserting images, SmartArt, tables, and charts.

Review Check your spelling, grammar, and much more
On the Review tab, you will find tools that help you proofread your document. These include features for spell checking, grammar checking, commenting, and tracking changes when multiple people are working on the same document.
Try it yourself!
1. Open a document and check it for spelling and grammar mistakes. (You can change the language using the Language button on the Review tab)
2. Replace some of your words with synonyms.
3. Check how many words your document contains.
4. Share your document with a classmate.
5. Write comments to each other in the document.

References Manage your table of contents, citations, and bibliography
Bibliography and headings
On the references tab, you can find tools for creating a table of contents and a bibliography for your assignments.
Try it yourself!
1. Open a document and create several headings of different levels (Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.).
2. Create a bibliography.
3. Add more headings and update the table of contents.

Word’s reference feature
Microsoft Word includes a built-in feature that can help you create citations and automatically generate a bibliography. Watch the video guide to get started with using Word’s built-in reference tools. You may also want to ask your instructor which citation style is typically used in your programme.
Try it yourself!
1. Write a quotation from one of your course textbooks and create a citation in Word.
2. Do the same with a journal article or a report, and include page numbers.
3. Generate a bibliography using the “Bibliography” feature.
