Cleaning

Cleaning services are provided across all campus areas. Below you will find general information and instructions regarding cleaning.

Cleaning staff can only perform their work if areas are tidy. If you want surfaces—such as windowsills or tables—to be wiped down, you must ensure they are cleared of trash and materials no later than the day before deep cleaning. The same requirement applies to the floors.
Refrigerators in student kitchenettes are cleaned several times a year. Users will be notified several days in advance via notices posted on the refrigerators. Please remember to remove any items you wish to keep.

Deep cleaning is carried out on a rotating schedule. Other rooms are thoroughly cleaned on one of the weekdays mentioned above. Please check the label on the door frame of each room, which indicates the day when deep cleaning takes place.

In teaching and training rooms, please remember to clear desks and remove any items from the floor to allow cleaning to be carried out.

Waste Disposal

At EK, sustainability is a core focus, including how we manage waste. We sort our waste continuously to ensure it is recycled in the most environmentally friendly way. As a student, you can support these efforts by using the waste stations located in common areas and labs.

The sorting categories (fractions) at these stations include food waste, plastic (soft and hard), food and drink cartons, office paper, deposit containers (pant), residual waste Other primary categories at EK include cardboard and hazardous waste.

Contact the staff in the respective labs if you have waste of a specific or unusual nature.

Email se@ek.dk if you need to dispose of large amounts of waste, such as cardboard or packaging.

You can also contact se@ek.dk if your project requires a specific waste bin for large quantities of drawing/sketching paper or clean cardboard.

Sustainability Initiatives

In January 2024, a new sustainable initiative was launched at Guldbergsgade, Lygten, and Frederikkevej: paper towels were phased out and replaced with cotton cloths where appropriate.

Key facts about the initiative:

Recycled Materials: The cloths are sewn from discarded textiles.
Efficiency: One cloth replaces 2 to 3 paper towels per hand dry.
Durability: The cloths can be washed up to 300 times before disposal.
Environmental Impact: Replacing two paper towels with one cotton cloth reduces greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 30% (including transport and laundering).
Waste Reduction: This initiative is expected to reduce residual waste at Guldbergsgade by over 4 tons annually, while also reducing the use of plastic bin liners.
